The Carolina Reaper is certified as the hottest pepper in the world as of 2013. Although there are claims of hotter peppers, to date the Carolina Reaper is still at the top of the list according to the Guinness World Records with a blistering 2,200,000 Scoville Heat Units. (SHU). On average the pepper comes in at about 1,600,000 SHU. The flavor is known to start out with a fruity taste. Some folks might say even peachy. However, it’s soon after that it turns into what some refer to as Molten Lava. Obviously this pepper is not for the faint of heart. So, if your palette desires heat and you are bold enough to tackle the Carolina Reaper, this pepper is a good match. Just use sparingly and let it sneak up on you before you delve into it. Enjoy!
